Carlsbad
Carlsbad MainStreet and Pearl of the Pecos Arts & Culture District
The Pearl of the Pecos (POP) Arts and Culture District has been carefully examined to encompass a vast variety of artistic and cultural enterprises, experiences and endeavors. Carlsbad is a rural community, which primarily expands laterally along one main passage of transit. POP ACD is centrally located, walkable and is considered the “heart of Carlsbad” as the area is populated with locally owned art galleries, creative businesses, restaurants, and boutique hotels.
Also included in the POP boundary is a museum, a public art park, public library, murals, a historic theatre, and so much more. Strategically overlapping much of the existing MainStreet and Historic Districts of Carlsbad, POP functions as a catalyst for the development of creative economy in the existing territories defined by Carlsbad MainStreet and the Historical Society. With the implementation of the POP Initiatives, downtown Carlsbad will become a mecca for cultural and creative experiences by day and an entertainment district by night.

The arts district is home to private and cooperative galleries such as The Artist Gallery, businesses that provide hands-on training for artists such as Uncorked Art, as well as the City of Carlsbad Halagueno Arts Park (outdoor performance space and sculpture park), extensive children’s programs at the Carlsbad Public Library, and the Carlsbad Museum and Hall of Fame. The area also serves as an entertainment district with several live music venues including Lucky Bull Restaurant and Tap Room, Yellow Brix Restaurant, the Trinity Hotel & Restaurant, and Milton’s Brewery.
The vision for the district includes plans for the rehabilitation of the Cavern Theater to serve as a venue for film and simulcasts of live performances. Local Entrepreneurs have plans to repurpose the old Odd Fellows Hall into a coffee house, bistro and event space. Currently, an electrical box mural project is underway.
